Results highlight the need for accessible digital content, stronger digital skills, and sustainable strategies for small museums

[Húsavík, Iceland – 01.09.2025] The DIGIMUSE ENTER project has successfully completed two co-creation labs in Iceland, organised by Menningarmiðstöð Þingeyinga (MMÞ), to support digital transformation and inclusion in the cultural heritage sector.

The first lab, held at Safnahúsið Húsavík in April 2025, brought together local museum staff and project managers to explore digital inclusion and the potential of AI tools. Participants identified priorities such as creating more accessible digital content, improving staff digital literacy, and increasing awareness of European funding opportunities.

The second lab, held in August 2025, invited museum professionals from all over Iceland to address wider challenges of accessibility and digitalisation. The feedback focused on barriers in historic sites, seasonal staffing and weather-related issues, and gaps in digital confidence. Outcomes pointed to layered interpretation methods, practical training in storytelling and digital tools, and the need for simple, sustainable strategies that small teams can realistically maintain. Participants also expressed a strong interest in modular training formats that allow seasonal staff to quickly build skills.

The feedback from both Icelandic labs will directly inform the DIGIMUSE ENTER training programme, ensuring that it is relevant, hands-on, and responsive to the real needs of cultural professionals in Iceland and across Europe.
